Private Tour for Up to 6 People – All-Inclusive Package
Notre-Dame is the most iconic monument in Paris and arguably in France. Struck by a devastating fire on April 15, 2019, it was rebuilt in five years (a record time!) after the construction of the century. The cathedral now presents the spectacle of its history and exceptional heritage. After the laying of the first stone in 1163, during the reign of Louis VII and under the guidance of Bishop Maurice de Sully, its construction spanned nearly two centuries. Renovated in the 19th century by Viollet-le-Duc, it is an unparalleled architectural feat, measuring 127 meters in length, 48 meters in width, 69 meters in height at the towers, and culminating with a spire at 96 meters.
The private tour offered by the Compagnie des Guides allows guests to discover and deepen their understanding of this monument. A visit to the fully restored interior after the fire surprises visitors with the clarity of its walls, the brilliance of its paintings, the freshness of its sculptures, and the well-integrated modernity of its furnishings.
The journey begins at the mythical Virgin with Child from the mid-14th century, follows the rhythm of the ambulatory, and explores the twenty-nine chapels, including the Virgin of Guadalupe, colorful and cherished by Latinos, and the chapel of the Holy Childhood, whose Chinese characters recall the martyrdom of Saint Paul Chen. It leads to the altar featuring the statues of the vow made by Louis XIII and renewed by Louis XIV. The transept is punctuated by three rose windows, where remnants of 13th-century stained glass can still be admired. The choir screen, though partially diminished, showcases a series of beautiful polychrome wooden scenes from the Gospels, dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries.
The exterior tour of Notre-Dame allows visitors to decipher the historical portals, the gallery of kings, the statues of the Virgin and Adam and Eve, as well as the gargoyles at the tower levels. This journey through time and space is complemented by the story of the fire and the subsequent restoration. An exceptional moment that will mark your memories!
