The Butte aux Cailles is located in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, between the Place d’Italie and the Parc Montsouris. This village-like district charms walkers who stroll along the narrow cobbled streets decorated with small flowery houses. Examples include rue Alphand, passage Barrault, passage Sigaud and the charming rue Michal. La Petite Alsace – a working-class housing estate opened in 1913 with forty or so small half-timbered houses – and the very flowery Villa Daviel are must-sees in the district. The Art Deco swimming pool on the Butte aux Cailles is one of the neighborhood’s landmarks. There are many small local shops and restaurants in the lively Rue des Cinq Diamants. There are also many murals by the artist Miss.Tic.
